Preslav Petkov – key figure in Romeo Sorrento's fifth success

Bulgarian international Preslav Petkov recorded another strong performance for Romeo Sorrento in their convincing 3:0 (25:21, 25:19, 25:20) away victory over Esse-ti Hotels Fano in a match from the ninth round of the Italian Serie A2, played in the "PalaAllende" hall. This is Nicola Esposito's team's fifth win of the season and solidified their good position in the standings.

Petkov was extremely effective as a middle blocker, finishing with 8 points, including an impressive 4 blocks, and had direct involvement in key moments in all three sets.

First set - 25:21

The start was even, but Sorrento gradually imposed their rhythm with strong play at the net. Preslav Petkov distinguished himself with a crucial block in the middle of the set, which gave the visitors a psychological advantage and helped them maintain their lead. In the concluding part, it was Petkov's block and stable serving that ultimately tipped the scales in Sorrento's favor.

Second set - 25:19

Sorrento started aggressively and quickly built a lead, with the stability of their blocking once again being a key factor. Although Petkov was not the main scorer in this set, his presence at the net limited Fano's attack options and facilitated the defense's work. In the decisive rallies, the visitors showed better organization and closed out the set without undue pressure.

Third set - 25:20

The even start was quickly broken after a series of successful blocking plays by Sorrento. Petkov once again came to the forefront with direct points from blocks, including at a moment when Fano tried to get back into the set. At the very end, the Bulgarian middle blocker also contributed to accumulating match points, after which a serving error by the hosts ended the contest.

Individually for Sorrento, Alberto Polo and Andrea Baldi were the top scorers with 13 points each, but Preslav Petkov's contribution in key moments, especially in blocking, was among the decisive factors for the clean sweep victory. For Fano, Maksym Tonkonoh scored 11 points.

After this match, Romeo Sorrento occupies sixth position with 15 points (5 wins, 5 losses), while Fano is tenth with 11 points (3 wins, 7 losses).

In the next round, on December 21, Sorrento will host Rinascita Lagonegro, while Fano will visit Banca Macerata Fisiomed, where national players Rusi Zhelev and Denis Karyagin play.
