Galatasaray officially parted ways with their current head coach Umut Çakır. The separation is by mutual agreement, as the specialist had been at the helm of the men's team since the 2022/2023 season, and before that worked in the staff of the "yellow-reds" since 2015.
Çakır spent a total of seven seasons as an assistant coach and four as head coach, and under his leadership at Galatasaray, Bulgarian national player Martin Atanasov also played. During this period, the team maintained stable positions in the Turkish league, but the management has decided on a change in search of new impetus.
In the upcoming match against Cizre Belediyespor from the 11th round of the championship, the team will be led by the current assistant coach Cihan Cüntay.
Italian specialist Andrea Gardini – a coach with a rich international resume – is expected to take Umut Çakır's place. Gardini was most recently the head coach of Olympiacos Piraeus, where a key figure in the squad is the "Bulgarian son-in-law" Aleksandar Atanasijević. Gardini's appointment clearly shows Galatasaray's ambition for higher goals and greater prominence on the international stage.
