Preslav Petkov with a strong game in the victory in the "Bulgarian" derby against Cantu

Another "Bulgarian" derby in Serie A2 is now history, after Preslav Petkov and his Romero Sorrento prevailed with a 3:1 (33:31, 27:25, 23:25, 25:12) victory over Campi Reali Cantù. This is the fourth win of the season for the Sorrento team, which with it escapes the relegation zone and climbs to 8th place in the standings. Cantù remains in last position with just one win and continues to seek a change in their game.

The match offered high dynamism, with the first two sets decided after dramatic rallies, and Sorrento demonstrated greater resilience in critical moments. The third set brought Cantù back into the match, but the fourth set was decisive – the hosts left no chances for the opponent.

Preslav Petkov had one of his strongest matches since the beginning of the season. With a total of 13 points, he was among Sorrento's top scorers – a rare achievement for a middle blocker.
His 79% attack efficiency demonstrated excellent interaction with the setter and his ability to overcome the block. Additionally, Petkov also made 2 blocks, and his aggressive serve created sustained pressure on Cantù's players, despite the risk of errors.

Top scorers for Sorrento:

  • Vicente Paraguirre – 19 pts.

  • Alberto Polo – 18 pts.

  • Andrea Baldi – 18 pts.

Nikolay Ivanov received limited playing time in the first, third and fourth sets, scoring 2 points from attack with 100% efficiency.

Top scorers for Cantù:

  • Matteo Meschiari – 14 pts.

  • Gaetano Penna – 19 pts.

  • Nicola Candeli – 10 pts.

  • Federico Bonacchi – 12 pts.

In the next round, Sorrento visits Essence Hotels Fano, and Cantù hosts Abba Pineto.
