Alex Grozdanov: "I think we can reach very high with this team"

National player Alex Grozdanov, one of the most important pillars in Bulgarian men's volleyball, gave a special interview to BNT, in which he spoke openly about his development in Polish Bogdanka Lublin, about the immense progress of the national team in recent years, and about the expectations for the 2026 European Championship in Bulgaria. The conversation focuses both on his role in international volleyball and on a potentially key decision for his future in the club scene.

An established starter in Poland and a key player in PlusLiga.

Grozdanov's tenure at Bogdanka Lublin continues to be an example of stability and sustainable development. The team is second in the championship, and the Bulgarian middle blocker has repeatedly been named to the Team of the Round in PlusLiga, which underscores his importance to the team.

He himself confirms that he feels like an important part of the squad, but attributes this to the enthusiasm and support of everyone around him:

"I feel like an important figure in the team, but that's because of the attitude of the coaching staff, the attitude of the guys. Every one of us contributed a lot."

His brief summary for the last twelve months is eloquent: a successful year, in which the only missing piece is the gold medal with Bulgaria.

The transfer question: Resovia on the horizon, but the decision is pending.

Grozdanov doesn't hide that he is currently at a stage of an important career step. The question of whether he will move to Resovia – a club with high ambitions, led by Massimo Botti, the coach with whom the Bulgarian won three trophies last season – remains open.

His answer is cautious, but indicative:

"I am in the process of considering it. It's an important step to make the best decision for next season. But anything is possible."

The fact that there are other offers confirms his strong market position, but he remains professionally discreet:

"Yes, but I can't say at the moment."

This doesn't add new information, but emphasizes that this summer he will face not one, but several real choices. And this is a position that few middle blockers from the region achieve in one of the world's most competitive leagues.

The World Championship in the Philippines – a success that shapes a generation.

The silver medal from the World Championship in the Philippines and Grozdanov's personal award for best middle blocker are moments that the player acknowledges as unforgettable.

"So many people had come out to the square. We managed to unite them. Young people are passionate about sports."

This success is not seen merely as a single peak, but as a first step in a process which he describes as a "whole set" of future achievements that the national team should strive for.

It's clear from his words that the role of captain is not just a title – it's a responsibility he understands and accepts:

"I hope not to betray this trust and to continue this way."

The big goal: Euro 2026 in Bulgaria.

Ambition, hard work and real arguments for optimism

The upcoming European Championship in 2026 is the logical next stage for this generation. The home factor, combined with the experience gained during the long summer, according to Grozdanov, could be decisive.

The most complex process begins – to maintain composure, to stay grounded and to continue working even harder.

He speaks not of euphoria, but of controlled ambition – something rarely heard from a young team, but indicative of maturity. According to him, with this squad, Bulgaria can reach 'very high'.

An important highlight is the conditions at the 'SamELion' training base, which the national player emphasizes with respect. This shows that stable preparation is part of the change everyone observes from the sidelines.

The captain's messages – to the team and the nation

Grozdanov concludes with gratitude to his teammates and to everyone who worked tirelessly throughout the summer.

Thank you for the work all summer... and that I'm waiting for them again next summer.

With this conclusion, he emphasizes not only respect for the group but also confidence that the process is long-term – it's not a seasonal flash, but a stable development program.

The interview outlines Alex Grozdanov as a leader with a clear vision, a stable professional standing, and an ambition to lead Bulgaria to new heights. Euro 2026 will not just be a competition, but a test for a new generation. And before that, the middle blocker must make one of the most important decisions of his career – a choice that could take him to a new club or keep him in the environment where he established himself as a key player.
