Bulgarian outside hitter Hristiyan Velikov, one of the volleyball players in the extended squad of the national team this summer and a key figure in CSKA, is making his first international transfer of his career. The 22-year-old talent will play for the Kuwaiti Burgan Sport Club – an ambitious team that has gradually established itself among the country's leading teams in recent years.

Brief History and Profile of Burgan SC
Burgan Sport Club was founded in 2007 in the Ali Sabah Al-Salem district. Although it is one of the younger clubs in Kuwait, the organization operates with a clear strategy – to attract experienced foreign players and international coaches, which provides accelerated development for the team.
Achievements in the 2024/25 Season
| Tournament | Position | Key Moments |
|---|---|---|
| Kuwait League 2024/25 | 2nd Place | Strong season, fight for the title until the last set |
| Arab Club Championships 2024/25 | 12th Place | Participation against leading teams from the region |
Burgan SC demonstrates significant growth. Second place in the Kuwaiti League is proof of stability and quality selection, while participation in the Arab Championship provides important international experience. The performance in 2024/25 shows that the club is now a lasting factor in local volleyball.
Hristiyan Velikov's New Challenge
After a strong season with CSKA and growth that earned him a call-up to Bulgaria's extended squad, Hristiyan Velikov is embarking on his first foreign challenge. At Burgan SC, he will have the opportunity to play in a league where proven names from Europe and South America compete, which will allow him to develop even further. His contract is until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Bulgarian Trace in Burgan: Teammate Aleksandar Ljaftov
In Kuwait, Velikov will meet a familiar name from our championship – the North Macedonian Aleksandar Ljaftov. The outside hitter played for Hebar Pazardzhik, and last season he was a teammate of the Bulgarian setter Nikolay Kolev in Greek PAOK.
Now the two – Ljaftov and Velikov – will form a strong reception line at Burgan SC.
