Axel Truhchev versus Chaumont at Prandi in the 1/16 finals of the Challenge Cup

Foinikas Syros continued its successful performance in Europe and qualified for the 1/16 finals of the Challenge Cup, after achieving two victories over Danish Nordenskov UIF. The Greeks triumphed in Aarre after a dramatic 2:3 sets (25-14, 22-25, 25-22, 18-25, 15-17), and in the first match in Greece, they were decisive with 3:0.

The key figure in the return leg was once again former Neftochimic player Axel Truhtchev, who solidified his excellent form and was the main contributor to his team's success.

After eliminating the Danes, Syros looks to the next challenge – French Chaumont, led by former Bulgaria coach Silvano Prandi. The first match is on January 6 in France.

The match statistics revealed an extremely close contest – both teams had an equal number of attack points, but Syros compensated with a stronger block (13 against 10). The Danes excelled from the service line with a total of 16 aces, but in key moments they made more unforced errors, which prevented them from closing out the match. The greater discipline of the Greeks and their stronger play at the net proved decisive for the victory.

In the Round of 32, Foinikas Syros will face Chaumont Volley-Ball 52, whose head coach is Silvano Prandi, well-known to Bulgarian fans. The French team is among the strong home teams in the tournament and will certainly pose a much more serious challenge for the islanders.

The match on January 6 in France is shaping up to be a true test for Syros's ambitions.
