The first matches of the opening round in the Romanian Women's Cup tournament offered two clear-cut results – one with Bulgarian participation and one without. In Bucharest, spectators expected an intriguing clash, as two teams with Bulgarian volleyball players faced each other, but CSM București left no chance for Medicina CNUE Tg. Mureș and imposed its will with a 3:0 sets win.

Bulgarian setter Petya Barakova did not appear in the match for the capital team this time, while for Medicina, Alex Saykova distinguished herself with 6 points and a positive rating of +5.

While the scenario in Bucharest was predictable, in Cluj we witnessed a big sensation. Universitatea Cluj secured its first victory of the season against one of the favorites – former trophy holder CSM Lugoj.

Strong character, battling in long rallies, and numerous defensive saves made the difference. Adina Stanciu played her star match – 15 points and the highest efficiency on the court.
