Champions Trento recorded an expected, but fully deserved home victory over Monza with a clean 3:0 (25:20, 25:22, 25:20), in a match where the visitors failed to create any real intrigue. The difference in class and rhythm was visible throughout all three sets, and Monza seemed helpless against the hosts' stable block and aggressive serve.
A difficult match for the Bulgarians
Martin Atanasov started among the regulars but was substituted in the first set after an unconvincing start. In the following parts, he appeared sporadically but failed to score a point – a rare occurrence for him, especially considering his role in the team in previous rounds.
Zhasmin Velichkov entered the game in the first set and at a score of 2:0 in sets and 15:9 for Trento in the third set. The young national brought freshness in attack and finished with 3 points from 4 successful attacks – a good performance in the limited time he received.
Trento's class decided everything
The hosts played confidently, disciplined, and without pressure. Théo Faure was once again the leading scorer with 15 points, followed by Alessandro Michieletto with 14 and Ramon Dowe with 12. The three maintained constant pressure on Monza, which prevented Atanasov's and Velichkov's team from finding their rhythm.
For the visitors, only Padar reached a double-digit score – 16 points, but his efforts were not enough to change the outcome of the match.
Monza is plummeting in the standings
The defeat is Monza's fifth since the start of the season, and the team continues to occupy the penultimate 11th place. Iliya Petkov's and Georgi Tatarov's team - Grottazzolina - is last and without a win, which makes the battle at the bottom of the standings even fiercer.
Monza urgently needs to find game balance and a sharper attack if they want to avoid prolonged presence in the relegation zone. The match against Trento clearly showed how much work lies ahead for the team.
