Historical atmosphere will mark today's match between Numia Vero Volley Milano and Igor Gorgonzola Novara in the legendary Unipol Forum arena in Assago. Tickets sold have already exceeded12 627, surpassing the previous peak of 12,626 spectators, set in the same hall on November 22 last year in the match between Milano and Imoco Conegliano. This was announced by the official club website of Numia Vero Volley Milano.
The stands of the Milanese sports arena will once again be filled to capacity, with the last tickets still being snatched up in the hours before the first referee's whistle.
The big show starts even before the game.
Today's match, which is part of the 10th round of the regular season, is much more than a volleyball clash – it is a celebration of sport and community, united under the motto “2GETHER”.
The audience will be admitted to the hall from 6:00 PM to enjoy a rich program and various activities.
Among the highlights is the participation of 22-year-old pop artist Sangiovanni – a star who gained popularity after participating in “Amici di Maria de Filippi”, a recipient of gold and platinum certifications, and a two-time participant in Sanremo. He will perform his hits immediately before the teams enter the court, turning the evening into a true spectacle.
The match will be broadcast live on Rai Sport and on Volleyball World's VBTV platform. The first serve is scheduled for 8:30 PM.
Italian Volleyball – A Social Phenomenon
The idea behind the event is to highlight the boom that women's volleyball in Italy has experienced in recent years. At its core are also the successes of the national team, world champions this summer. Part of the championship squad are players from Vero Volley Milano –
Paola Egonu, Anna Danesi, Eleonora Fersino, and Benedetta Sartori.
To illustrate the growing interest in the sport, the organizers present data on the development of volleyball in Italy:
Table data: Indicator, 2024, Change from pre-Covid, Change from 2023. Total registered athletes: 356,759, +61,000, +6.1%. Girls (6-16 years): 188,475, +2,700, faster. Boys (6-15 years): 48,130, +1,500, faster.
Comment: The numbers clearly show that volleyball is becoming a mass movement. The growth among both girls and boys highlights a trend that extends beyond the sporting aspect – it is a socio-educational phenomenon that attracts more and more young people.
Expectations for the Match
The upcoming match is not only a derby between two of Italy's leading clubs but also a clash of stars that will be watched by a record number of spectators.
Milano relies on world champions and one of the strongest attackers in the world – Egonu. Novara, for its part, arrives ambitious to spoil the celebration and take points from the big favorite.
A battle is shaping up that could become an example of how sport, when presented with vision and creativity, can engage a huge audience and enter the country's biggest arenas.
