Tomorrow, the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation will convene to approve the new head coach for the women's national team. Ivan Petkov, Radoslav Arsov, and Marcello Abbondanza, who joined at the last moment, are competing for the position. The decision will be made after the presentation and discussion of the candidacies, and the interest is particularly high due to the statement made by BFV President Lyubo Ganev two weeks ago, that"the next coach of the women's national team will be Bulgarian"In the interest of objectivity, we must say that Ganev's words were uttered before Abbondanza joined the race. His candidacy was accepted as an urgent matter, which necessitated postponing the selection by one week, during which a specially formed commission conducted online interviews with all three candidates.
Arsov: "We will see if Ganev's statement will be fulfilled"
After Levski's decisive 3-0 set victory over CSKA in a match from the Women's NVL (National Volleyball League), Radoslav Arsov commented to BNT cameras on both the match and the upcoming decision of the federation:
"We had discussions with the selection committee. Whether it will be Ivan Petkov or me, it doesn't matter at all. Ganev is the person responsible for these matters. It was said two weeks ago – that the women's coach would be Bulgarian. Whether that is the case, we have yet to see. They must make a choice that is good for Bulgarian volleyball as a whole, not just for the current national team. It's hard to expect results from this team; it needs to be built upon, and this can only come from people who know the young talents (likely referring to the team that became world champions at U19 – editor's note), and those are the Bulgarian coaches."
