Bulgaria narrowly defeated Slovenia for their second win at the European Championship

The Bulgarian women's volleyball team achieved their second victory at the European Women's U20 Championship. In our fourth match in Group I, held at the "Hristo Botev" Hall in Sofia, we secured a tough win against Slovenia in a tie-break – 3:2 (24-26, 25-15, 26-24, 23-25, 15-9). Thus, the Bulgarian team's record so far is two wins and two losses.

Kaya Nikolova, who was chosen to partner Boryana Angelova in the middle, played a very strong match. Krachanov opted for Viktoria Ninova as libero, and the rest of the starting lineup included Margarita Guncheva, Viktoria Koeva, Iva Dudova, and Maria Zlatanova.
Bulgaria could have closed the match earlier and taken all three points, after leading 21:17 in the fourth set following a good double block. Four unanswered points for Slovenia followed, and after an out-of-bounds attack by Dudova from the back row, the score became 21:21. After a double hit was called after reception, Slovenia took a 23:22 lead. A block out from an attack followed, and our opponents got a set point. Koeva managed to reduce the deficit, but it was already too late. After a diagonal attack, Slovenia equalized the score and sent the match to a tie-break.
The final set started badly for the Bulgarians, who were trailing 2:5. We managed to equalize after a block-out by Koeva, a good serve by captain Gencheva, and an attack by Dudova. Bulgaria was the first to score the eighth point, after which we managed to pull ahead in the score. Dudova came alive, alternating good attacks with blocks. After another good serve by Dudova and a counter-attack by our team, the first match point arrived.

A second match point was not needed, as the excellent substitute Kaya Nikolova scored the winning point.
On Saturday, August 10, Bulgaria faces the Netherlands. The match is again at 5:30 PM.

According to specialists, qualifying for the final four requires mandatory wins until the end and a 'carousel' of results.
