Lokomotiv Novosibirsk recorded their fifth victory in the championship, this time away against Dynamo LO (Sosnovy Bor) with a decisive 3:0 (29:27, 25:22, 25:18). Thus, the "railwaymen" are at the top of the provisional standings with the same number of wins as Zenit Kazan, but with better indicators. Third-placed Zenit Saint Petersburg has 4 wins, but plays against Gorky tomorrow and will most certainly make it five wins.
Simeon Nikolov finished with 4 points (3 blocks), scoring one point from three attacks. He also didn't miss his characteristic "trick" – letting the ball drop into the opponent's court, which Russians jokingly call "Grankin's trick" (2012 Olympic champion).
First Set
Lokomotiv started cautiously, and the beginning of the match was marked by numerous service errors from both sides. Two inaccurate attacks through the middle allowed the hosts to take the lead, and their advantage was maintained almost until the end of the set. At 23:20 for Dynamo LO, Moni's tip brought it to 23:21, followed by a block from Kurkaev. After a timeout, the visitors made another break to tie at 23:23. Two consecutive service errors led the set to overtime, where the hosts missed three chances to close it out. Radzhab softened an opponent's attack, and Lysik secured Lokomotiv's first set point. After another block by the "railwaymen", the score became 27:28, and an ace by Lysik ended the set after nearly half an hour of play. Blocking and serving proved decisive, with a point ratio of 3:1 from blocks and 2:0 from serves in Loco's favor.
Second Set
The visitors started more confidently and led early on, but Dynamo LO gradually equalized, and the game went point for point until 22:22. Then a block by Kurkaev and Moni Nikolov put Lokomotiv ahead. Another successful block by the captain, confirmed after a video challenge, secured set point, and another block brought success in the set. Once again, superiority in blocking was decisive in the key moments.
Third Set
The hosts tried to maintain intrigue, managing to melt a five-point deficit with a run of three, which forced Plamen Konstantinov to call a timeout. Kurbanov and Sam Deroo, however, maintained a stable two-three point lead for the "railwaymen". Deroo increased the advantage with a powerful attack, and Dynamo's inaccuracies in attack further eased the visitors' path. Kurbanov, excellent in this match, brought the first match point with a beautiful pipe from the back row, and a block by Radzhab closed the match with a clean 3:0 victory for Lokomotiv.
The top scorer in the match was Kurbanov from Lokomotiv Novosibirsk, who finished with 14 points and 67% attack efficiency. Radzhab and Sam Deroo each added 10 points for the victory.
For the hosts, only Cuban national Ozniel Melgarejo Hernandez achieved a double-digit score - 11 points.
Lokomotiv's next match is on November 12, when they host the strong team of Belogorie Belgorod.
