Defending champions USA will face Italy or Turkey for the gold medals on Sunday, after defeating Brazil, who had not lost a set in their matches until now.
After many twists and turns and moments of dominance for both sides in the first four sets, the Americans came back stronger in the tie-break and made a dramatic 3-2 (25-23, 18-25, 25-15, 23-25, 15-11).
The final set was the most tense, as the teams battled it out from the start and equalized twice - 6:6 and 7:7. The Americans were the first to score the eighth point, after which the Brazilians equalized again. From that moment until the end of the match, the Americans dictated play on the court and did not allow a comeback. Kathryn Plummer sealed the match with a good block-out for 15:11, sending her team to a second consecutive title final.

Plummer, one of the two new additions to the American team, was the most effective with 26 points (2 blocks and 1 ace), as was the other rookie Avery Skinner, who added 19 (3 blocks and 1 ace). Annie Drews, an Olympic champion from Tokyo, also performed great with 18 points (1 ace). Nine US players, who won gold in Tokyo, are part of Karch Kiraly's team in Paris.
For Brazil, which has six Tokyo medalists in Paris, Ana Cristina Souza performed best with 24 points (2 blocks).

Captain Gabriela "Gabi" Guimaraes and Rosamaria Montibeller left the court with 16 (1 block) and 14 points (2 blocks) respectively.

The USA will play in an Olympic final for the fifth time, having won gold in Tokyo three years ago and settling for silver in Los Angeles 1984, Beijing 2008 and London 2012, losing to Brazil in the latter two finals.
The Americans could become the fourth women's national team to successfully defend their Olympic title - the former USSR won in Mexico City 1968 and Munich 1972, Cuba triumphed consecutively in Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000, while Brazil won gold in Beijing 2008 and London 2012. Ze Roberto's girls also have two bronze medals (Barcelona 1992 and Rio 2016).
