The selection of a coach for the women's national volleyball team is postponed, Dani Peev takes over the men's U22 team

After a meeting of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation (BVF), it became clear that the selection of a new head coach for the women's national team is postponed by one week. The decision was made after a total of three candidacies were submitted for the position, which necessitated a more in-depth discussion and additional communication with each of the candidates.

Three contenders for the position

So far, the former national coach of Bulgaria and Ukraine had submitted their documentsIvan Petkov, as well as the coach of"Levski Sofia" – Radoslav Arsov. At the last moment, they were joined byMarcello Abbondanza– an Italian specialist who had previously coached the Bulgarian women's national team in the period 2011–2014.

Thus, the competition for the position is shaping up to be extremely serious, with all three candidates having experience at the highest level. The Management Board of the BVF decided to form a working commission, which will conduct individual interviews with each of the candidates and will present its final recommendations at the next meeting.

Appointments for youth teams

In addition to the question of the head coach for the women's national team, the BVF meeting also approved the coaching staffs for several age-group national teams:

National TeamAppointed Coach
Men U22Daniel Peev and Georgi Petrov (joint leadership)
Women U18Atanas Petrov
Men U18Miroslav Zhivkov
Girls U15Evelina Tsvetanova
Boys U15Nikolay Hadzhiivanov

The appointments for the youth teams show the federation's desire to emphasize continuity and a modern training approach. Special attention should be paid to the joint leadership of the U22 national team – Daniel Peev and Georgi Petrov – which combines experience from the Bulgarian championship and the Russian school. The appointments of Evelina Tsvetanova and Atanas Petrov also suggest trust in specialists who have proven themselves in developing young talents.
