A strong start for the reigning Spanish champion – CV Guaguas Las Palmas opened the new Superliga season with a convincing 3-0 victory (25:12, 25:21, 25:21) in the local derby against Cisneros Alter Tenerife.
The match was played in front of nearly 1600 spectators in the "Gran Canaria Arena", and the crowd witnessed the familiar powerful and organized volleyball of the "Yellow Hawks", led by coach Sergio Miguel Camarero.
Cuban legend with an Italian passport Osmany Juantorena showed that he remains a leader in Spain as well – he was the top scorer with 18 points, demonstrating flawless spiking after excellent rallies.
His partner in distributing the attacks was Dobromir Dimitrov, who came off the bench and brought stability and speed to the offense.
The statistics show a completely dominant performance by the hosts – four attackers with double-digit scores and only 54 points conceded in total across the three sets.

The Yellow Hawks finished in just 79 minutes and proved with their very first match that they remain the No. 1 favorite for the title in Spain.
The start is more than promising for CV Guaguas, who clearly state their ambition to defend their title.
Juantorena, despite his 39 years, demonstrated class and physical readiness, and the atmosphere in the "Gran Canaria Arena" showed that volleyball in the islands is gaining new popularity.
