Imoco Conegliano's hegemony has ended — Numia Vero Volley Milano triumphed with the Italian Supercup 2025 after a dramatic tie-break at PalaTrieste in front of 7,000 spectators. This is the first trophy in the club's history, lifted by Paola Egonu in her role as captain.
In the first set, Conegliano dominated thanks to the powerful Haak (11 points, 83% efficiency), outperforming their opponent in attack (52% versus 28%) and reception (76% versus 54%). Then Milano turned the tide: Canin's substitution brought freshness, Egonu took the lead with 30 points, and middle blockers Danesi and Kurtagić were unwavering in their blocks.
In the fourth set, the 'Panthers' responded convincingly (25-13), but in the tie-break, Milano led from the start and never relinquished their advantage. Egonu closed out the match with an attack — symbolically and literally ending Conegliano's long winning streak.
Final score:
Prosecco Doc A.Carraro Imoco Conegliano – Numia Vero Volley Milano 2:3
(25-18, 22-25, 20-25, 25-13, 12-15)
Historical context: the clash that changed Italian women's volleyball
The match in Trieste was much more than just a game – it was a clash of eras.
Imoco Conegliano arrived as the reigning champion of the Scudetto, the Italian Cup, and the regular season, with the ambition to continue their incredible streak – seven consecutive Supercups and a total of eight in the club's trophy cabinet. The squad, led by Daniele Santarelli, combined established stars like Haak, Zhu Ting, Wolosz, De Gennaro, Fahr, and Lubian, with new additions like Nika Daalderop, Fatoumata Silla, and young Matilde Munarini.
On the other side, Numia Vero Volley Milano was seeking their first major trophy in Serie A1. The squad, led by Stefano Lavarini, had been profoundly changed and was filled with international stars: Paola Egonu, Elena Pietrini, Anna Danesi, Haleigh Lanier, and Celeste Plak formed the backbone of a team that added new names like Canin, Bosio, Minor, and Rebecca Piva.
A rivalry that defines an era
The two teams had already met 41 times in Italian tournaments – 36 wins for Conegliano and only 5 for Milano. Until this point, in the Supercup, the balance was decisive – two encounters, two victories for the 'yellow-blues' (Livorno 2023 and Rome 2024).
The third clash, however, changed history – Milano finally broke the curse and inscribed its name among the champions.
A final that marks a new beginning
The Fineco Supercup 2025 marked the 30th edition of the tournament – an anniversary that received a dramatic conclusion. Since 1996, the event has been a symbol of excellence in Italian volleyball, and this evening in Trieste, it gave a new face to the top.
After years of undisputed supremacy by Imoco, women's volleyball in Italy welcomes a new era, where Milano is no longer a contender, but a true champion.
Paola Egonu ascended the throne once again – this time, however, in different colors and with a new message: the time of Milano has arrived.
