Gdańsk will once again be the stage for world volleyball – host of the 2027 World Championship

Gdańsk has been officially selected as one of the host cities for the 2027 Men's Volleyball World Championship – a tournament that will be of key importance for the Olympic cycle. Medalists from the championship will directly secure participation in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, which gives exceptional weight to every point, every set, and every victory.

Poland once again at the center of the volleyball map

The decision was confirmed during an official press conference today, where the championship logo was also presented. The Polish Federation (PZPS) received the news with anticipated pride — the country will host one of the most prestigious sports events in the world, having established its status as a leading center in international volleyball over the past decade.

"Gdańsk deserves FIVB's trust. The atmosphere here is always special, and the fans are the most devoted in the world," commented representatives of the local organizing committee.

Ergo Arena – a symbol of Polish volleyball

The emblematic ERGO Arena, located on the border between Gdańsk and Sopot, will be one of the central venues for the World Championship. Here, Poland has experienced some of its most memorable moments – its first World League medal in 2011, Olympic qualification for Tokyo 2020, a semifinal at the 2021 European Championship, and the golden triumph in the Volleyball Nations League in 2023.

Now, a new challenge awaits the 'white-and-reds' – to fight for a medal and a quota for Los Angeles, in front of their home crowd, in an arena that is already part of their national team's history. This will happen if Nikola Grbić's boys do not win the European title next year, as the continental champion secures a quota for the Los Angeles Games.

The Bulgarian memory from Ergo Arena

For Bulgarian volleyball, Gdańsk also brings positive emotions. It was in this arena that our national team participated in the third tournament of the 2025 Volleyball Nations League, where they recorded two victories in four matches. The most memorable was the 3:2 success against host Poland, in one of the most dramatic matches of the entire tournament.
However, whether the silver medalists from the World Championship in Manila will step onto the court in Ergo Arena again remains to be seen.
