France tiptoed into the semifinals after a 3-2 win against Germany

France made a full comeback against Germany in the third quarter-final of the Olympic volleyball tournament. Andrea Giani's boys managed to erase a two-set deficit, even having a set point in the second set, but failed to convert it, yet triumphed in the tie-break, which sent them to the semi-finals. The 3:2 (18:25, 26:28, 25:20, 25:21, 15:13) victory left a bitter taste after the intervention of the head referee Mokry Juraj from Slovakia, who showed a red card to Tobias Krick from Germany. This happened in the tie-break at a score of 8:5 for France, thus increasing it to 9:5.

Nevertheless, the Germans managed to get within one point of their opponent (10:9, 11:10, 13:12). After a service error by Krick, the first match point for the hosts came. And they also made a mistake on their serve. Then Michal Winiarski made a substitution, and Ruben Schott, who came in to serve, hit the ball out, ending the match.
Ngapeth scored the most points for France - 21 (3 blocks and 1 ace).

Klevénard added 19 (1 block). Veteran Grozer contributed 22 points (4 blocks and 1 ace). This is likely his last participation in the Olympic Games. Lukas Kampa also intends to end his competitive career with the national team.
