📜 Details of the decision
The report was submitted by Vassil Terziev, Tsvetomir Petrov, and Dimitar Shalafov, with the proposal receiving full support –

The agreement provides for mutual commitment between the parties:
Sofia Municipality provides financial support for the organization of the tournament, infrastructure improvements, and logistical activities;
The Bulgarian Volleyball Federation undertakes the obligation to promote Sofia as a European capital of sports and to represent it worthily on the international stage.
🏐 Significance for the city and sports
EuroVolley 2026 will be one of the largest sports events held in Bulgaria since the European Championship in 2015 and the World Championship in 2018. A numerous audience is expected, as well as significant tourist interest in the capital.
The tournament will bring not only sports prestige but also economic benefits for Sofia – through increased interest from the hotel and restaurant sector, as well as through advertising of the city in European media.
The decision of the SMC shows a unified political and public will to support Bulgarian volleyball and the development of Sofia as a center for international sports events. The combination of sports and public policy in such a format is a strong signal that the municipality recognizes volleyball as one of the most successful and popular sports in the country.
Details are expected to be announced in the coming months regarding the organizing committee, as well as the specific match locations and the event promotion program.
