In the first two sets, the Italians did not let go of the initiative for a moment, taking an 11-point lead in the first set and closing it with 25:14. The Turks equalized twice in the second set (6:6, 9:9), but Egonu and company picked up the pace and left no doubt as to who would be the winner of that set. For the first time, the Turks took the lead several times in the third set, leading 16:12, but Antropova started playing well, the Italian block also started working, and the score turned in favor of Julio Velasco's girls. The Turks did not capitalize on two errors by the 'Squadra Azzurra' captain Anna Danesi at the end of the set with the score at 19:19, which could have led to a different outcome of the match. Key errors by Turkey's star Vargas followed, as she made attacking errors twice. Egonu then made a block-out for 23:21. The first match point came from a double block by the Italians. Egonu, who scored an ace, put an end to the dispute.
