Egypt captain dropped from World Cup squad

A major upheaval occurred in the camp of the Egyptian national team before the start of the World Volleyball Championship in the Philippines. Captain and No. 10 Mohamed Adel ("Dola") was removed from the squad for technical and disciplinary reasons, several leading Egyptian media confirmed. The 211-cm middle blocker did not arrive in Manila, where the team landed today.

The publication FilGoal reports that the decision was made after a series of violations in the training camp – a drop in form, failure to follow the regimen, and tension in the team's atmosphere.

According to Youm7, Adel had a conflict with teammates and alerted the coaching staff about their behavior, which led to further escalation and a reaction from the federation.

The agency Maspero News adds that the problems started with his late arrival for the camp in Slovenia and several unauthorized absences.

The Egyptian Federation's decision is final, with the aim "to restore discipline and focus" before the start of the World Championship. The team is in Group A, along with Iran, the hosts, and Tunisia.

❗ Adel's absence is a serious blow to the Egyptian team, as he was not only a leader in attack but also a symbol of experience and stability in decisive sets. This will necessitate changes in the tactical scheme and rearrangements at the net.
