Finally: Slovenia without Rok Mozic at the World Cup

Slovenian national volleyball player Rok Možič will miss participation in the World Championship, which starts on September 12 in the Philippines, due to a knee injury. This information comes from the Slovenian federation's website.
The Slovenian team, which is leaving for a training camp in Japan – the final part of their preparation before the World Cup in Manila – definitively remains without outside hitter Rok Možič, who played an important role in the squad during the first part of the season. Možič, who has been experiencing knee pain since the final tournament of the elite Nations League in China, is still not ready to perform at the highest level.

The 23-year-old outside hitter for Italian Verona, who has been undergoing therapy and training according to a specially prepared program for the last month, had hoped until the last moment to help Slovenia at the World Championship. The Maribor-born player stated on the federation's official website:

"In such moments, it's really hard to find the right words. Unfortunately, the inflammation in my knee is still too serious for me to be ready in time for a tournament like the World Championship. I hoped and wanted to travel until the very end, but the doctors at the last check-up said that although progress is visible, the risk is too great. I am disappointed. I am sad. Mentally, this current state of waiting has exhausted me more than any championship. The disappointment is even greater because I thought I would have enough time, but this time it wasn't on my side. I wanted and eagerly awaited the World Championship in the Philippines so much. Moreover, the Philippines holds a special place in my heart. The fans there always welcome me warmly, follow me throughout the season, and support me. It's hard to add anything more. With a heavy heart, I will send off the team when they leave for the championship, and I will support the guys in front of the TV."

The Slovenian squad will depart for Osaka this evening. Slovenia plays in a group with Bulgaria, Germany, and Chile, with the match against Kiko Blengini's team on September 15.
