After surprising Brazil with a convincing 3:0 on Friday, Argentina's volleyball players continued their strong performance at the 22nd edition of the Hubert Jerzy Wagner Memorial in Krakow. Today, they also outplayed Serbia with another clean victory – 3:0 (25:20, 25:18, 25:17), sending a clear signal to Nikola Grbic's staff before the clash with Poland on Sunday.
Match progression
The Serbian team started the first set better and took a 10:6 lead thanks to their strong block. Gradually, however, the Argentinians found their rhythm and, after a comeback from 11:15 to 19:16, closed the set with 25:20.
In the second set, the South Americans dominated from the start. They took an 8:3 lead and did not allow their opponent to get back into the match. Serbia made errors even in easy situations, which led to a 25:18 win for Argentina.
The third set started evenly, but Marcelo Mendez's team's class prevailed once again. With effective attacks and risky but successful serves, they pulled ahead in the score and finished the match with 25:17.
Key figures
Luciano De Cecco orchestrated the game with varied distribution and composure in key rallies.
Luciano Vicentin was an engine in attack and troubled the Serbs with his serves as well.
The entire team demonstrated aggression in serving and stability in defense, repeatedly turning difficult situations around.
In this match, Argentina showed that their success over Brazil was not a fluke, but rather the result of a well-built team and excellent form. The 3:0 victory over Serbia is proof of the "Gauchos'" high ambitions. On Sunday, a big test awaits them
– a match against the hosts from Poland, led by Nikola Grbic.
