Germany won the opening match of the international FIPAV CUP Men Elite tournament, which is being held in the Palavela arena.
The German squad convincingly defeated the Netherlands 3:0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-12) in a match that was almost entirely dictated by the Bundesteam. The "Tulips" played without their main star Nimir Abdel-Aziz, who refused to participate in the World Championship in the Philippines and started pre-season training with Ziraat Bankkart.
Philipp John and Tobias Brand stood out as leaders for the team, scoring 13 points each. The match was also successful for the new captain – veteran Georg Grozer, who once again led the team with his experience and authority.
The German team is also Bulgaria's first opponent at the upcoming World Championship in the Philippines.
The Pool E – Preliminary Phase match will be played on September 13 in Manila.
