Argentina shocked Brazil at the start of the Memorial "Hubert Jerzy Wagner".

The first day of the prestigious tournament in Krakow began with a surprising, but fully deserved victory for Argentina over their great South American rival Brazil. Marcelo Mendez's pupils decisively won with3:0 (25:20, 25:22, 25:21), showing stable play in block and composure in decisive moments.

Match development

  • First set (25:20):
The two teams started evenly, but Vincentin's strong block and the Brazilians' service errors tilted the scales in favor of "Albiceleste". Ktsukarcev and Palonsky were flawless in attack, and Bernardo Rezende's timeouts did not change the course of the game.

  • Second set (25:22):
Brazil started more confidently, led by Darlan and Lucarelli, but their concentration gradually dropped. Argentina showed character and with a series of strong blocks turned the result around. Vincentin finished the part with a powerful attack.

  • Third set (25:21):
The game went point for point until the middle, when the Argentinian defense and block again took over. Sanchez and Gallego organized quick counter-attacks, and substitute Bergman only temporarily brought the intrigue back for the "Canarinho". Argentina did not let go of the initiative and closed the match in three sets.

The Argentinians had a more balanced attack – four players with double-digit scores, while for Brazil only Darlan tried to carry the team. This clearly shows the collective superiority of "Albiceleste".

Coach Mendez utilized his full potential and rotations that maintained Argentina's rhythm. In contrast, Rezende failed to find a winning option from the bench.

Conclusions

Argentina started the Memorial in the best possible way - with a convincing victory over their eternal rival. Their strength was in the block organization and the calm play in defense, which did not allow Brazil to find a rhythm. The 'Canarinhos' will quickly need to correct the problems in reception and attack organization if they want to get back into the fight for the trophy.
