Asian powerhouse China showed its strongest performance yet at the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Championship, closing out the group stage undefeated on Wednesday in Chiang Mai. The Chinese team decisively defeated the Dominican Republic 3-0 (25:15, 25:21, 25:17) in their final match in Group F.
With this victory, the Chinese team finished with nine points and secured first place in the group, and will face France – second in Group C – in the Round of 16. The Dominicans remained second with six points and will play against Brazil. Both clashes will take place on Sunday in Bangkok.
Leading attackers
The most prolific scorer for China was Wu Mengjie with 16 points (15 attacks, 1 block), followed by Ruan Yuashan with 15 (12 attacks, 2 blocks, 1 ace). Middle blocker Wang Yuanyuan added 10 more points, half of which came from blocks.
For the Dominican Republic, captain Brayelin Martinez scored 15 points (13 attacks, 1 block, 1 ace), while substitute Massiel Matos contributed 7 points.
