The Serbian women's national team achieved an expected 3-0 victory over Cameroon at the World Championship in Thailand, but the joy was overshadowed by a serious injury to their best player – Tijana Bošković.
The Serbian opposite hitter twisted her right ankle after landing on her teammate Hena Kurtagić's foot in the second set of the match. Bošković immediately requested a substitution, left the court in tears, and did not return to play.
“Tijana, unfortunately, sustained a sprain to her right ankle. We performed initial pain relief and immobilization. Tomorrow, further examinations are pending to determine the actual extent of the injury,” announced the team's doctor, Dr. Dejan Aleksandrić. The athlete will also undergo an MRI.
Head coach Zoran Terzić did not hide his concern:
“This injury was the last thing we needed. We don't know yet how serious it is, but I hope everything turns out as well as possible. The victory takes a back seat – Tijana's health is the most important thing.”
The Serbians defeated Cameroon 3-0 (25:16, 25:16, 25:12), but now the entire team and fans are anxious about the condition of their star.

After two 3-0 victories (against Ukraine and Cameroon), Serbia is now a confirmed participant in the Round of 16. In the last match of Group H, the world champions will face Japan in a direct clash for first place – on Wednesday at 12:00 PM Bulgarian time.
