Italy qualified early for the eliminations after a crushing victory over Cuba

The Italian women's national team recorded a categorical 3-0 victory over Cuba (25-9, 25-8, 25-15) in their second World Championship match and secured a place in the round of 16 even before the end of the group stage. This wasthe 31st consecutive victoryfor the "Azzurre," who demonstrated class, depth, and enviable discipline.

Egonu continues to be the team's leader, but the strong support from centers Danesi and Fahr showed how diverse and effective Italy's attack is. For Cuba, Madan stood out most prominently, but remained without the necessary support.

Match progression

  • 1st game - Italy started with two aces and two blocks, took an early lead (11-4) and gave Cuba no chance. The game was closed by setter Orro (25-9).

  • 2nd game- An even stronger start for the "Azzurre" (8-1), and the block became a decisive weapon. Danesi and Oro stopped almost every Cuban attack - a decisive 25-8.

  • 3rd set- Velasco relied on reserves, which allowed Cuba to briefly take the lead (10-11). The strong blocking series by Giovannini and Akrari turned the tide, and Italy closed with ease (25-15).

Italy demonstrated depth and flexibility, and even the reserves came in with energy and quality. An exceptional performance by Oro, who intelligently distributed the play, providing variety and equal opportunities for the attackers. The "Azzurre" look fully ready for the big battles and are now focusing their attention on the match against Belgium, which will determine first place in the group.
