The Olympics are one of the highest moments in world sports, an almost sacred moment, an event that in ancient times stopped wars. The Paris 2024 Olympics, however, unfortunately, may be remembered as the Olympics of scandal
The Olympic Games in France are truly a missed opportunity. Controversies, failures, criticism on all fronts. Today, however, a complaint arrives that makes the organizers' wrists tremble and leaves the public stunned, disbelieving what is happening in Paris. In recent days, we have reported some controversies and doubts surrounding the organization of the 2024 Paris Olympics, such as the polluted Seine, which would not have been able to host the competitions, informs the Italian websitelavocetorino.it.
The swimming leg of the triathlon took place exactly in the Parisian river with truly shocking consequences. At the end of the competition, the athletes emerging from the river threw themselves to the ground, and some began to vomit. The scene of the Canadian athlete, partly due to the effort and obviously partly due to the river conditions, vomiting ten times, also near the cameras, is emblematic. The video obviously went viral.
Ceccon "destroys" the Olympic Games
But today, it is precisely the complaint of Thomas Ceccon, one of the Italian athletes in swimming, that finally destroys the Paris Olympics. Thomas Ceccon, an Italian competitor, swimming champion and winner of the Olympic swimming final in the backstroke discipline, where he took the gold medal, failed to repeat his achievement in the 200-meter race. In the end, the athlete proved to be the last straw, and clearly denounces what has already been happening in recent days.
This is a catastrophic organization of the Olympic Games, starting from the Olympic Village. This is a fundamental component of the Olympic Games, or at least it should be, representing much more than a simple complex of buildings: it is a temporary microcosm where athletes from all over the world coexist, share experiences, and prepare to compete at the highest levels. Olympic villages are designed to meet all the needs of athletes during the Olympic period, providing a safe, comfortable, and stimulating environment.
Apparently, however, no one told the French organizers and those who built the village. The name "Olympic Village" comes from the fact that these structures create a true temporary "village" where thousands of people live together during the Games. This term emphasizes the idea of a global community that comes together to celebrate friendship, solidarity, and sports competition.
The concept of the village also reflects the original vision of Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic Games, who envisioned the Olympics as an event capable of promoting peace and understanding between nations. Ceccon's complaint, unfortunately, reveals something quite different with athletes who would literally flee. "I emphasize that this is not meant to be an excuse or an alibi - so begins Ceccon's statement - we are all experiencing the same situations and are in the same conditions. Something that many probably do not know and it is right to tell them."
Criticism and controversies for a truly totally failed Olympics
In short, the Italian athlete shared several incidents about life in an Olympic village that was anything but simple. An Olympic village completely different from what one would expect. From what we described earlier, referring precisely to the main characteristics of the Olympics and their spirit. Thomas Ceccon lashed out against the organization: "It's hard to sleep both at night and in the afternoon, amidst the noise and the heat. Yes, I'm hot too, there's no air conditioning in the village, you don't eat well and there are problems with food. Many athletes are moving out for these reasons."
As Ceccon himself stated, this is a situation where from the first days after the delegations arrived, there have been no shortage of complaints and controversies on this issue. Criticism due to a situation that, unfortunately, "ruins" what should be one of the highest moments in sports.
