A little over a month after falling to the Japanese in five sets in the VNL, the Brazilians gave their opponents no chance in Paris and achieved a 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-17, 25-18), which secured their place in the quarterfinals of the Paris Games.
With six points, two wins, and not a single lost set, the Brazilian women surpassed Poland, who also has six points but lost a set. Both teams have secured their participation in the quarterfinals, and on Sunday, they will determine who will be first in Group B with a match between them. Japan, which has not yet won a point in Paris, must defeat Kenya on Saturday to keep its chances of advancing as one of the two best third-place teams.
With the 8.62 points earned for the FIVB World Ranking, Brazil (395.42) climbed to second place, very close to leader Italy, which has 398.88.
Captain Gabriela "Gabi" Guimaraes was Brazil's top scorer in the match with 17 points. Ana Cristina Souza and Rosamaria Montibeller also performed well, with 15 and 9 points respectively.

For the Japanese, Sarina Koga performed best with 10 points, and Arisa Inoue with 9.
Japan will play its decisive match against Kenya on Saturday at 13:00 local time (11:00 GMT), while the Brazilians will face Poland for first place in the group on Saturday at 21:00 local time (19:00 GMT).
