The USA is going to the Women's World Cup without half of the team that won a silver medal in Paris 2024.

The U.S. Women's National Team has officially announced its roster for the FIVB World Championship, which will take place in Thailand from August 22 to September 7, 2025. The Americans are in Group D, where they will face the Czech Republic, Argentina, and Slovenia.

The biggest news is that eight players from the silver medal-winning squad at the Paris 2024 Olympics will not be part of the team. This shows the decisive change undertaken by head coach Eric Sullivan, who is focusing on a new generation and broader roster rotation.

U.S. Roster for the World Championship

PositionPlayers
SettersJordyn Poulter, Sage Tulu Ka'aha'aina
OppositesMadison Skinner, Stephanie Samedy
Outside HittersAli Frantti, Logan Eggleston, Avery Skinner, Sarah Franklin
Middle BlockersChiaka Ogbogu, Dana Rettke, Thia Gimmerson, Amber Igiede
LiberosLexi Rodriguez, Morgan Hentz

The roster is balanced with experienced names like Jordyn Poulter and Chiaka Ogbogu, but at the same time gives a chance to new stars like Sarah Franklin and Thia Gimmerson. Interestingly, the presence of the two sisters - Madison and Avery Skinner - adds extra flair to the team.

Eric Sullivan's decision to forgo eight of the Paris vice-champions is risky but could prove strategic. The USA aims to combine the experience of proven names with the energy and ambition of the new generation.

In Group D, the Americans enter as favorites, but Slovenia is a rising team, and the Czech Republic can also cause problems. For the USA, the main goal will be to build a new identity and prove that the roster changes are not a weakness but an advantage. Let's not forget that they are not chasing qualification for the next Olympics, as they are hosts and can calmly experiment in their desire to build a competitive squad.
