The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has officially confirmed the new, significantly increased prize fund for the upcoming World Championships. Following the example of the Nations League, where the winner receives a check for $1 million, the World Cup will now also bring a seven-figure prize to the champion.
The financial revolution begins in Thailand
The Women's World Championship starts on August 22 in Thailand. From this tournament onwards, the best national teams will be able to count on prizes they have not seen before in this competition.

Ranking | Prize |
---|---|
World Champion | 1,000,000 USD |
Runner-up | 500,000 USD |
Third Place | 250,000 USD |
The increase is impressive – in 2022, the champion received only $200,000, and the bronze medalists $75,000. Now the amounts are between 3 and over 10 times larger, bringing the prestige and financial value of the World Cup closer to that of the Nations League.
In addition to team prizes, FIVB will also distribute significant bonuses for individual honors.
Award | Prize |
---|---|
Most Valuable Player (MVP) | 100,000 USD |
Player per position | 50,000 USD |
Overall for Dream Team | 450,000 USD |
The significance for volleyball
FIVB's new prize money policy is a step towards greater recognition of players' efforts and will increase competition at world events. In addition to sporting prestige, champions will now also receive awards comparable to those in the most commercial sports.
