The 39-year-old Brazilian setter recalled working with his father " the legendary Bernardo Rezende ", in the " Selecao " team.
"Our relationship certainly changed over the years. In a way, we matured. In the beginning, there was a distance between us because we didn't know how to handle it. He was always stricter with me than with others. Since my father was my coach, I always had to prove something more. It was a burden and a great responsibility, but it also forced me to grow up faster. I didn't want to be with my father in his free time. Thus, our relationship cooled. At that moment, we could no longer stop being coach and player.

Over time, everything calmed down. After our victory at the 2016 Olympic Games at home ", in Rio de Janeiro, he left the national team and then we returned to a full-fledged father-son relationship, we became friends," Bruninho said in an interview for the local magazine Veja.

Bernardinho returned to lead the Brazilian national team in 2023, while Bruninho announced his retirement from the " Selecao " after the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
