Brazilian talent replaces Stephen Maar in Piacenza

Gas Sales Bluenergy Volley Piacenza made an impressive transfer move at the very end of the market, signing Brazilian talent Lucas Felipe Bergmann to replace Canadian international Stephen Maar, who is leaving Italy to continue his career in Turkey.

Lucas Bergmann, who is already shining with Brazil in the Nations League, signed a three-year contract with Piacenza and is expected to be a key figure in coach Dante Boninfante's squad. Born in Munich in 2004, Bergmann holds dual citizenship – German and Brazilian – and comes from a volleyball family. His mother and father are former players, and his sister Julia is a key figure in the Brazilian women's national team.

🔄 Maar leaves, but with respect

Stephen Maar, who was part of the Piacenza squad last season, leaves by mutual consent after receiving a "very important offer" from a Turkish club. President Elisabetta Curti and Sporting Director Nini De Nicolo agreed to terminate his contract to give him the opportunity to accept the offer.

"Stephen received a really important offer from Turkey - one of those you can't refuse. But a chance also opened up that inspires us - to sign Lucas Bergmann, one of the most promising young players in the world," commented De Nicolo. "There were other clubs that wanted him, but Lucas chose Piacenza with conviction. He fully fits into the spirit of the team we are building."
