"The Tale of Paris" - the book in honor of the Olympic champions

A new interesting read about volleyball in Italy is on the market

Leandro De Sanctis' latest work, “La favola di Parigi”, published by Calzetti and Mariucci, is released today, reports the Italian volleyball electronic dailyivolleymagazine.net. It follows those magical days in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower that brought Italian volleyball its most prestigious successes.

On August 11, 2024, the women's national volleyball team won the Olympic final, defeating the United States 3-0. In this way, the "Azzurre" (the nickname for women's national teams in Italy) secured the country's first Olympic gold medal in volleyball. The "culprits" for this triumph are head coach Julio Velasco, who formed a staff around himself with Massimo Barbolini, "Mr. Century" Lorenzo Bernardi, and also Manuela Leggeri – the captain of the team that became world champion in 2002.

The "Squadra Azzurra" reunited all its stars and "reborn" around the new captain Anna Danesi. From Paola Egonu, awarded as the best player of the Olympic Games, to Monica De Gennaro and Caterina Bosetti. The wonderful orchestration of Alessia Orro and the determination of Miriam Sylla and Sarah Fahr, as well as the best double substitution with Ekaterina Antropova and Carlotta Cambi. Italy overcame painful absences due to injuries of Elena Pietrini, Alice Degradi and Sara Bonifacio. The discovery was the young Gaia Giovannini.

“The Paris Fairy Tale” (original title “La favola di Parigi”) is the story of a journey after a difficult 2023, of a whole winning season that began with Velasco's appointment and the auspicious triumph in the Volleyball Nations League in Bangkok.

A chronicle, thoughts and words from those Olympic days, which match after match praised the qualities of a team that proved invincible on its way to the gold medal. Only one set lost in the entire tournament, a record series of "clean" 3-0 victories, including in the final against the United States. The discovery of the main protagonists was long awaited. All this was ultimately achieved thanks to Velasco - the coach who launched the winning era of Italian volleyball, which has never ended since 1989.

The book is available for purchase from today on the website of Calzetti e Mariucci, a publishing house specializing in and with a long tradition of writing about volleyball. Subsequently, in the coming days, "The Fable of Paris" will also be available in major online bookstores, as well as by order in bookstores.
