Vero Volley Milano, led by the coach of the Bulgarian men's national team Gianlorenzo Blengini, continued its undefeated run in the Italian championship. The team defeated home team Laika Cioccolato UYBA (Busto Arsizio) 3:0 (25:20, 25:22, 25:15) on October 24 in a match from the fifth round of Serie A1 and temporarily topped the standings with a perfect record of 15 points.
The success extended the strongest start in club history and completed a week with three victories for Milano after those against Novara and Bergamo.
The most serious challenge for the hosts came in the second set. UYBA led 10:6 and 13:9, but Milano turned it around to 15:14 after a successful attack by Paola Egonu. Yoshino Sato helped pull away with a strong serving run, including an ace for 19:14, and Egonu closed the set at 25:22.
In the third set, Milano asserted control with its blocking and pulled away to 10:3. Anna Danesi recorded her fifth block for 15:8, and Sato ended the match also with a block for 25:15.
Blengini's team's next match is on November 1 against Omag Consolini in Monza.
