Bulgarian international Denis Karyagin started the new season in the Italian Serie A2 with a personal achievement. The Fano receiver surpassed the 500-point mark in the division during the home victory over Gioia del Colle with a score of 3:1 (25:11, 23:25, 25:15, 25:20).
Karyagin started as a starter and finished with 14 points, sharing second place in scoring for the winners with Cristiano Cattaneo. The most points for Fano were scored by middle blocker Alessandro Tondo – 17.
Before the start of the championship, the Bulgarian had 491 points in Serie A2, needing only nine to reach the milestone. In the match against Gioia del Colle, he added another 14 and now has 505 points in the division, including all tournaments.
Karyagin also contributed in key moments of the match. In the first set, he and Stoil Palev made two consecutive successful blocks, with which Fano increased their lead to 15:7. The Bulgarian receiver also ended the third set with a successful block for 25:15.
The success brought Fano their first three points, and they finished the round as leaders in Serie A2 in attack efficiency (51.2%), successful blocks (19), and aces (9).
