CEV to Volleyweek.bg: The transfer system in volleyball has not been changed for decades

The European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) believes that the time has come to modernize the international transfer system, which has largely maintained its model over the past decades. This is clear from an official statement provided specifically toVolleyweek.bgregarding the proposals for changes in transfer fees approved by FIVB.
Following the decision of the Board of Administration of the International Volleyball Federation, we sought a comment from CEV on the direction of the upcoming reform and its possible impact on European clubs.
"The international transfer system has remained largely unchanged for decades, and it is only natural that a time comes when it needs to evolve and adapt to the development of our sport," CEV toldVolleyweek.bg.
The European Confederation supports the need for changes but emphasizes the balance between the interests of all participants in international volleyball.
"CEV supports reforms that strengthen good governance, improve transparency and fairness, and contribute to the sustainable development of volleyball. Ultimately, the most important thing is for the system to serve the interests of our sport as a whole, including players, clubs, leagues, and national federations," the official statement further notes.
The comment comes at a time when FIVB is taking steps to review the financial terms of international transfers. Among the stated goals is preventing double taxation of clubs and updating the maximum compensation for the federations of origin of the players.
CEV does not delve into the specific financial parameters of the upcoming changes and does not assess whether they will lead to a reduction in costs for clubs.
However, the European Confederation's position raises the question of the need for the transfer system to meet modern conditions in professional volleyball, taking into account the interests not only of clubs but also of players, national leagues, and federations.
