Bulgarian international Dimitar Dimitrov is already training with CSKA after leaving Greek Aris (Thessaloniki), volleyweek.bg learned. The 25-year-old opposite hitter may stay with the "reds" at least until the winter transfer window opens.
When asked for a comment by volleyweek.bg, head coach Aleksandar Popov answered with "more likely yes" to the question of whether Dimitrov will be part of the team until the New Year. His first appearance is expected this weekend at the "Boris Gyuderov" tournament in Pernik. From October 9 to 11, CSKA will compete with Pirin (Razlog) and local Minyor and Metalurg.
To play in the Bulgarian championship, the national player must be registered by the day before the first official match of the second round, when the first transfer window closes.
Volleyweek.bg was the first to report on October 6 that Dimitrov and Todor Valchev were leaving Aris due to the financial and management crisis at the club. According to Greek media, the two are considering reporting unpaid wages to FIVB. Valchev also returned to Bulgaria and yesterday signed with the national cup winner Neftochimic 2010 (Burgas).
For Dimitrov, this is his third stint at CSKA. He wore the red jersey from 2017 to 2021 and in the 2022/2023 season, and abroad he has played for Italian Ravenna, French Montpellier, and South Korean OK Savings Bank.
Last season, the 206-centimeter left-hander scored 667 points in the South Korean championship and finished seventh among the top scorers.
