Bulgarian national player Kalina Veneva had a strong match for Brescia in the last test before the start of the season in the Italian Serie A1.
The 17-year-old outside hitter became her team's top scorer in the 1:3 (25:21, 20:25, 24:26, 21:25) loss to Busto Arsizio in the third-place match of the "Volley sotto il Mucrone" tournament in Biella.
Veneva finished with 19 points, with only Vittoria Batista from Busto Arsizio scoring more than her in the match – 22.
The Bulgarian started as a starter and already in the first set played a key role in Brescia's 25:21 success. She scored 5 points, including two aces.
Veneva was again at the center of events in the contested third set. Her ace brought the score to 22:22, and Brescia subsequently reached set point at 24:23. Busto, however, turned it around to 26:24 and took a 2:1 lead.
In the fourth set, the Bulgarian national player continued to pressure the opponent with her serve. Veneva recorded an ace for 6:5, and later another direct point from her serve gave a 16:11 lead. Brescia, however, failed to hold onto the lead and lost 21:25.
Thus, Veneva finished the tournament with two good individual performances. A day earlier, she recorded 7 points against Chieri in the 0:3 (14:25, 18:25, 16:25) defeat.
Brescia's next match is already official – on October 4, the team hosts Talmassons in the first round of Serie A1.
