The men's volleyball team ofBeroe 2016will pursue the highest goal in the new season -the championship title in Bulgaria. This was announced by the club's presidentZhivko Zhelevin an interview for Radio Stara Zagora, in which he outlined the ambitions, selection, and challenges facing the Stara Zagora team.
Ambitions for the top: "No one has a better selection"
After an excellent performance last season, when Beroe finished infourth place, the management is now looking towards the title.
"This year we will be looking for a higher ranking, we are aiming for the title. I believe that no one else has a better selection than ours and I hope Beroe will become champion,"
emphasized Zhivko Zhelev.
The president of Beroe revealed that the selection for the new season has already been completed. Head coachMiroslav Zhivkovwill have a full squad that combines experienced players with the young Bulgarian champions under 20 from the club's academy. This provides additional reasons for optimism among the team's supporters.
Lack of a modern hall - a hindrance to European ambitions
Despite the strong selection and growing public interest, the infrastructure problem remains. Zhelev pointed out that the city has long needed a modern multifunctional sports hall.
"It is clear that the interest in volleyball in our city is very serious. The 'Ivan Vazov' hall is already too small for us. We have to put additional chairs for the spectators,"
he commented.
Concerns are also related to future home games in Europe. In the autumn, Beroe will debut in the"Challenge Cup"— the third strongest European tournament. An inspection from the European Volleyball Federation is expected, which will decide whether the Stara Zagora team can play their home matches in the current hall.
"If we qualify for more prestigious tournaments like the CEV Cup or the Champions League, we will certainly have to play in another city," said Zhelev.
Stara Zagora's most successful male collective team for the year
With these ambitions and results, Beroe's men's volleyball team is establishing itself asthe most successful male collective sports team in Stara Zagora for the current year. This is recognition not only for the club's sports-technical work, but also for the support of the fans and the local community.
Conclusion
Beroe 2016 enters the new season with the clear goal of fighting for the title in the Bulgarian championship, despite the challenges related to the sports facility. The club president is adamant that the team has a quality selection that can bring the championship trophy back to Stara Zagora and bring more European volleyball to the local audience - provided that the issue of a modern hall is resolved soon.
