Marcelo Mendez was officially presented as the new strategist for the champions from Trento.

International class, accumulated experience, and fresh enthusiasm– these are the main qualities that led to the selection of Marcelo Rodolfo Mendez as the new head coach of the Italian champions – Trentino Volley. The Argentine specialist, born in Buenos Aires and also holding an Italian passport, signed a contract until June 2027 with the club from Via del Brennero.

New beginning in SuperLega

At 61, Mendez will make his debut in the Italian championship, after building an impressive international career. After four successful seasons in Poland at the helm of Resovia and Jastrzębski Węgiel, he arrives in Trento to start a new stage in the team's development. His period in Poland was marked by titles, including a championship trophy in PlusLiga and the Polish Cup, which solidified his reputation as a strategist with vision and results.

The president and the coach – in full synchronicity

"We are truly happy to welcome a coach with such fame and capacity as Marcelo Mendez," commented President Marcello Poli. "He accepted our offer with enormous enthusiasm and the conviction that he can lead the team to new heights. My conversations with him revealed a person with clear determination and great respect for the squad he will lead."

First words: challenge and opportunity

Mendez, for his part, shared:
"I am happy to take on Trentino – a great club, with proven organizational qualities and intuition in building strong squads. For me, this is a new personal challenge – I have never worked in the SuperLega. I enter with ambition and respect for the history and expectations."

He emphasized that he is starting from a stable base but sees opportunities for development, especially in attack and serve, where he will strive for a more aggressive style.

Impressive career in numbers

With 37 club trophies and four medals with the national teams of Spain and Argentina, including a bronze from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Mendez is a world-class coach. Among the clubs he has worked with, Sada Cruzeiro, Son Amar, and River Plate stand out, and as a national coach, he will lead Argentina at the World Championship in the Philippines this summer, before dedicating himself entirely to Trento.

Anticipation until autumn

Mendez will join the team in the second half of September after fulfilling his commitments with Argentina. He will become only the ninth coach in the history of Trentino Volley's men's team and the third foreigner in this position.
