The Sand Lions crushed the top seeds and advance to a historic semi-final in the Beach Pro Tour
Dimitar Mehandzhiyski and Dimitar Kalchev achieved an impressive victory in the quarterfinals of the Beach Pro Tour Sveti Vlas Futures, crushing the top-seeded Slovakian pair Lubos Nemec & Adrian Petruf with a decisive 2:0 (21:12, 21:13). Thus, the Bulgarian representatives continued to make history, first becoming the first home pair to reach a quarter-final, and then the first to reach a semi-final in a tournament of the prestigious world series.
Brilliant performance against the favorites
On the sand court next to Marina Dinevi, Mehandzhiyski & Kalchev demonstrated perfect synchronization, tactical maturity, and spectacular technique. With precise placements, solid defense, and composure in crucial points, they completely outplayed their Slovakian opponents.
"We did not expect to win so decisively... Fortunately, we showed a better game than in our previous matches," said Mehandzhiyski.
"Amazing victory! I didn't expect it either... We certainly didn't foresee a semi-final, but that's what we train for, and it's completely deserved," added Kalchev, noting the important role of public support.
