Hungarian woman scores 42 points in European Golden League, but is far from Elitsa Vasileva's record

Amazing seasonal success, but far from Elitsa Vasileva's record

In one of the European Golden League matches, the Hungarian volleyball playerAnett Nemethscored an impressive42 pointsfor her team against Romania, but the result remains significantly lower than the world record set by the Bulgarian starElitsa Vasileva.

Nemeth – the "machine" in attack and and serve

  • Attacks:37 points from 76 attempts (49% efficiency)

  • Serves:3 aces

  • Blocks: 2

Opposite Hitter Nemeth, who will play for the Italian Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri ’76 from the new season, demonstrated great form throughout the match and scored almost half of her team's total of 85 points. The match ended with an extended tie-break, in which Nemeth led her team to a second victory in this year's edition of the Golden League.

Seasonal peak, but far from the record

Although 42 points are among the highest achievements in Europe this season, they are still 17 points less than Elitsa Vasileva's peak performance.

  • Elitsa Vasileva- 57 points (Korean League, 2013)

  • Nicole Fawcett- 55 points (2013)

  • Marina Tushova- 50 points (Philippines, 2024)

Such results have become more frequent, but Nemeth's high seasonal peak failed to reach the world standards set by Vasileva more than a decade ago.

On par with the Olympic record

It is interesting that the same number of points - 42 - was also scored at the Olympic tournament in Paris byMelissa Vargas. This highlights the significance of such achievements, but also how rarely they surpass historical records.

Conclusion:
Annett Nemeth's achievement is undoubtedly one of the most remarkable in Europe this season, but it still needs a lot to reach57 pointsof Elitsa Vasileva, which remain the peak in world volleyball.

A curious highlight of the match is that the main referee of this spectacular duel was the Bulgarian Vanya Parvanova, which further emphasizes the Bulgarian presence in one of the strongest matches of the season, after the participation of Ivaylo Ivanov as the first referee in the historic first victory of the Czech Republic in the VNL over the USA.
