Italy qualified for the final of the European Women's Volleyball Championship after defeating Poland 3-1 (25:19, 25:19, 21:25, 25:16) in the second semi-final in Istanbul.
The world and Olympic champions controlled the first two sets. Poland had their good periods, but the Italians were more stable in key moments and twice reached 25:19.
However, the "Polish team" did not give up. In the third set, Stefano Lavarini's team showed their best volleyball in the match. The Poles took a 15:10 lead, and the strong play of Julia Szczurowska helped them withstand the opponent's pressure and reduce their deficit after 25:21.
Italy did not allow a comeback. In the fourth set, the team again imposed its rhythm, opened a significant lead in the second half, and closed the match at 25:16.
Paola Egonu finished as the top scorer for the winners with 20 points, Ekaterina Antropova added 14, and Anna Danesi – 13. For Poland, Szczurowska scored 15 points, and Martyna Czyrniańska – 12.
Thus, Italy will face Turkey in the grand final. The hosts eliminated Serbia 3-0 (25:20, 25:19, 25:20) in the first semi-final.
On Sunday, September 6, first Poland and Serbia will determine the bronze medal winner. The match starts at 4:00 PM Bulgarian time. The final between Turkey and Italy is at 7:00 PM in the Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul.
