Only one match separates Bulgaria from the title at the U16 Men's Balkan Volleyball Championship in Mytilene. Our national team recorded their third consecutive victory in the tournament after defeating Serbia 3:1 (25:10, 25:19, 22:25, 25:18).
Nikolay Hadzhiivanov's team now has a full nine points and leads the standings before the last day of the competition. Bulgaria will conclude its participation on September 5 against host Greece, with a victory bringing the Balkan title to our youngest national players. The match starts at 7:30 PM Bulgarian time.
Against Serbia, the Bulgarian team laid the foundations for success right from the start. A strong serving run by Dobromir Kirev helped establish a 6:0 lead, and the difference continued to grow. The Serbs never found an answer to the pressure, and the first set ended decisively at 25:10.
Bulgaria's superiority continued in the second set. Our national team controlled the score and did not allow the opponent to change the course of the match. At 25:19, the lead was already two sets.
Serbia managed to react in the third set. The game went point for point until 21:21, after which the opponent took two consecutive points for 23:21 and this time held onto their lead. At 25:22, the Serbian team reduced their deficit and brought back the intrigue.
However, Bulgaria did not allow the match to go to a decisive fifth set. Nikolay Hadzhiivanov's boys once again took the initiative in the fourth set, imposed their tempo, and closed the match with 25:18.
Thus, after three played matches, Bulgaria remains undefeated with a maximum of 9 points. The last obstacle before the Balkan gold is host Greece – on September 5 at 7:30 PM Bulgarian time.
