Poland with an experimental squad dramatically lost to Ukraine

The match between Poland and Ukraine turned into a true volleyball spectacle. Although the "white-reds" took a 2:0 lead, Raul Lozano's proteges made an impressive comeback and snatched a 3:2 victory (22:25, 22:25, 37:35, 25:22, 15:7).

🔥 Polish start - confidence and energy

The first two sets were dictated by the hosts from Poland. Michał Gierżot and Bartosz Gomulka were at the core of the stable play, supported by Seweryn Lipiński's excellent block. The Ukrainians couldn't find their rhythm, and Szymura's serve for 17:14 in the first set forced Lozano to call a timeout. The Poles closed it with 25:22, and the same happened in the second – despite the Ukrainians' attempt to come back at 20:19.

🎢 The comeback began in the marathon third set

It was the third set that proved to be the turning point. After a series of lead changes, the match went into an exhausting extension, where Dmytro Yanchuk scored the decisive point – 37:35. Here, Ukraine showed their teeth, and Poland lost concentration.

⛔ Collapse and a decisive tie-break

The fourth set started terribly for the "white-reds" – 3:10. The introduction of substitutes like Artur Szalpuk and Jan Firlej didn't bring a full comeback, even though the difference was narrowed to 19:20. Ukraine, however, maintained its stability and leveled the sets.

In the tie-break, everything fell apart for the Poles – a series of errors and a powerful block by Valerii Todua made the score 7:15 and finally put an end to the hosts' hopes.

📊Top scorers:

  • 🇺🇦 Yanchuk – 25 points

  • 🇺🇦 Kovalov – 20

  • 🇵🇱 Szymura – 17

  • 🇵🇱 Gomulka – 13

  • 🇵🇱 Gierżot – 12

After a strong start and many debuts in the Polish team, reality proved difficult. Nevertheless, the experience will be valuable for Nikola Grbić's youngsters. And the Ukrainians showed that with character and patience, one can win even when trailing 0:2.

After the dramatic 2:3 loss to Ukraine,"Druzyna Polska"needs a victory against Bulgaria to stay in contention for the top spots. Although playing with a reserve squad, the Poles showed fighting spirit and qualities that they will need to consolidate with fewer errors and more consistency.

The Bulgarian team, which recorded a victory at the start of the tournament against Germany, will seek their chances in the decisive match, which could overturn the group standings.
