Yaroslavich Yaroslavl, for which former Pirin (Razlog) and Hebar (Pazardzhik) volleyball player David Krustev will play in the new season, announced the appointment of 39-year-old Sergey Grankin as the team's head coach. “Grankin has already conducted his first training session with the team. He is well-known to both athletes and fans. Yaroslavich is his home club; Sergey began his career here. Sergey Yurievich has vast experience in playing, which will help him in his coaching work. We set ambitious goals for the team. The goal in the near future is the Super League,” wrote Mikhail Evraev, Governor of the Yaroslavl region, on his Telegram channel.
It became known that the contract with the new head coach was signed on a 1+1 scheme.
Grankin is a champion of Russia (2008) and Germany (2019, 2021, 2022), a CEV Cup winner (2012, 2015, 2018), and a silver (2010) and bronze (2007, 2011) medalist in the Champions League.
As a member of the Russian national team, Grankin played 265 matches, winning the Olympic tournament (2012), two European Championships (2013, 2017), and two World Leagues (2011, 2013) with the national team. Grankin also has a bronze from the 2008 Olympics.
Last season, Yaroslavich became a bronze medalist in the Higher League A. Sergey Shlyapnikov (who is also the honorary president of the club and former head coach of the national team) will remain with the team.
