Velasco's assistant takes over Galatasaray women again

Italian coach Massimo Barbolini is once again taking over as head coach of the Galatasaray Daikin women's volleyball team. The official contract signing ceremony with him will take place on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the Mehmet Cibar ParkS'Tas Sports Complex, with the participation of the club's vice president.

This is Barbolini's second tenure at Galatasaray. His first term was between 2012 and 2015, when he led the team for three seasons. During this period, he was known for his coaching, tactical, and managerial qualities, as well as his good human relations. After his contract expired in 2015, the club expressed gratitude for his contribution and wished him success in his future career.

After leaving Galatasaray in 2015, Barbolini continued his successful coaching career at various clubs, including Casalmaggiore, Eczacıbaşı, and Savino Del Bene Scandicci. In 2024, he became the head coach of the American team LOVB Houston, and also took on the position of assistant coach for the Italian national team under the leadership of Julio Velasco.

His appointment as the new head coach of Galatasaray was announced by the club's vice president Mehmet Cibar in March 2025. The current coach Alberto Bigarelli will remain on the staff as an assistant coach.

Barbolini's return is seen as a new era for the Galatasaray women's volleyball team, with the hope that his experience and leadership qualities will contribute to the team's future successes.
