Lokomotiv Avia has signed 23-year-old Brazilian outside hitter Bryan Boll, who arrives in Plovdiv after four seasons in professional volleyball in his home country and already has appearances with Brazil's national teams under his belt.
The new addition to the "black and whites" was born on March 31, 2003, in Ijuí, Rio Grande do Sul state, and is 196 centimeters tall. Boll is a nominal outside hitter, although for part of his time in Brazil's youth national teams, he was re-qualified and used as a libero.
The volleyball player himself spoke about this curious part of his development in an interview with a media outlet from his hometown days before his transfer to Bulgaria. He started in volleyball in the Ijuí Pró-Vôlei project, and subsequently moved to Nova Vôlei in Nova Petrópolis. Periods in São Paulo state and Belém followed. While still young, he received an invitation to a training camp for Brazil U17, and later went through the preparation for the U19 selection.
His big breakthrough in the national teams came with the U21 squad. In May 2022, the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation officially included him in the preparation of the representative team for the South American Championship. A few months later, Boll was also part of the squad that won the title in Tacna, Peru.
Brazil became champion in an impressive manner – four victories with 3:0 sets each and not a single lost set. In the decisive match, the "Seleção" defeated Argentina 3:0 (29:27, 25:19, 25:20), after previously beating Bolivia, Chile, and Peru consecutively. The title also secured the Brazilians participation in the U21 World Championship in 2023.
In 2023, Boll was again in the plans for Brazil U21. In the official list of the federation for the preparation for the World Championship in Bahrain, he was already listed as a libero.
In the same year, he also got an opportunity with the men's national team. Bryan Boll was one of Brazil's two liberos for the Pan American Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico. The "Seleção" reached the final and won silver medals, after losing to Canada 1:3 (26:24, 20:25, 23:25, 22:25). The Brazilian Confederation officially listed Boll among the 14 players in the squad for the tournament.
At club level, the Brazilian has experience with Vôlei Renata, São José, Montes Claros, and Amazônia Vôlei. As early as the 2022/23 season, he was part of Vôlei Renata and was included in the club's squad for the Club World Championship in December 2022. Volleyball World registered him for the tournament as a libero, and his team faced Sada Cruzeiro and Italian Perugia.
A season in São José followed, and in 2024/25, Boll already played for Montes Claros. In his last season before coming to Bulgaria, he defended the colors of Amazônia Vôlei. In these later stages of his career, he returned to his nominal position as an outside hitter.
The move to Lokomotiv Avia is also an important step in the career of the 23-year-old volleyball player. Boll himself admitted to Grupo Repórter that one of his main goals for the season was to leave Brazil and take his first serious step towards European volleyball.
"The idea is exactly that – to go to Europe to open up the market and new doors. My desire for this season was to leave Brazil. I always wanted to play in Europe one day, and now I'm making it happen," says Boll.
Thus, Lokomotiv Avia acquires not just a young Brazilian outside hitter, but a player with an interesting profile – having passed through the academies of one of the strongest volleyball nations, a U21 South American champion, with a silver medal from the Pan American Cup with Brazil's men's team, and with experience from the Club World Championship.
For Bryan Boll, Plovdiv will be the beginning of the European chapter in his career.
